Sources: Arkansas’ Fland likely out rest of season
According to sources who spoke to ESPN, Arkansas guard Boogie Fland, one of the top freshmen in the nation, is anticipated to miss the remainder of the season due to a hand injury.
The SEC’s availability report stated that Fland was previously ruled out of Wednesday’s game against Georgia, and coach John Calipari made a suggestion that Fland might miss time following the Razorbacks’ defeat to Missouri over the weekend.
“He has a quite poor hand. I’m not sure what we’ll do next,” Calipari remarked. “But we’ve got to make sure we get that thing right.”
Fland started the last two games against LSU and Missouri after suffering the injury against Florida on January 11. With a season-low four points on 2-for-13 shooting, he struggled in the latter game.
It’s the most recent blow to an Arkansas squad that has lost five straight games and is winless in the SEC.
With an average of 15.1 points and 5.7 assists per game, Fland has been one of the Razorbacks’ few reliable bright lights.
36.5% from 3-point range, 3.4 rebounds, and assists per game. With 20 points and seven assists in a victory over Michigan at Madison Square Garden in December, he played a key role in the team’s biggest victory of the year.
According to ESPN, he is ranked No. 32 in the NBA draft.
Calipari will have to rely more on Johnell Davis and D.J. Wagner as playmakers in Fland’s absence.
CBS Sports was the first to report on Fland’s timeframe.
