FIA DG Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir removed over Greece boat tragedy

Islamabad: In the midst of ongoing procedures against several FIA officers, the government on Wednesday dismissed Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir as Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The Cabinet Secretariat said that Jahangir, a senior officer in the Interior Division, had been reassigned to the Establishment Division as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD). This decision went into effect right away, and Jahangir will continue to serve in this capacity until additional directives are given. An officer’s duties are immediately and unexplainably suspended upon being designated an OSD.
In connection with the terrible boat disaster off the coast of Greece in December 2025, the FIA recently fired 13 of its officials and stopped promoting three constables. Five Pakistani nationals lost their lives in the disaster, and over 80 people, including children, were on board the overturned boats in the Mediterranean.

37 officials who were thought to have been engaged in the incident were also fired earlier. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given the FIA confirmation that these measures are being carried out. After Jahangir spearheaded internal proceedings against the 13 officials, the most recent action was taken against them.
